The County government of Machakos and the National government are throwing back and forth construction responsibility of Ikombe Road in Yatta sub-county in Machakos county.
Speaking during a protest against the bad roads, Ikombe residents led by their Member of County Assembly complained of numerous potholes on the murram road.
The demonstrators called upon both the national and County government to construct the road that has been causing accidents.
However, speaking last week during a visit to the area, the Yatta Constituency MP Francis Mwangangi said that the said road is under the County government roads devolved responsibility.
On the contrary, Machakos County Minister of roads Joshua Musili came out strongly defending Dr Alfred Mutua that despite being a national government responsibility he had already started the construction activities of the said road.
"The road in question is under national government under Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) but when the governor saw the road's condition he urged me to get road engineers, surveyors and constructors to start the work," said Musili.
According to Musili Ikombe, the MCA had fueled the demos carried out by mainly vehicle operators.
"The MCA of Ikombe has organized the demonstration aimed at impossible results as the construction cannot skip Katangi road areas so the residents should be patient," he added.
