The National government has been urged to absorb ECD teachers, for them to enjoy terms and conditions enjoyed by other teachers.
Speaking on Monday in his office, Uasin Gishu County Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said the county government will formulate ECD Curriculum to ensure that quality education is offered to children.
“We have released Sh50 million where each ward will receive Sh1.65 million for the construction of at least three ECD classes in which the practice will commence with immediate effect and expected to be completed as soon as possible,” he said.
He added that ECD education was devolved to the county governments and that they will work hard in making sure it is successful, and that they have enough classes and employ more teachers.
“For the 1,000 ECD teachers employed, each school will get at least two teachers, and come the next financial year the number will be increased to cater for the large number of children in ECD centres across the county of at least 1 teacher to 20 pupils for easier understating,” he added.
“I challenge the national government to come up with a way of absorbing ECD teachers who are the foundation of one’s education, how can one be paid Sh2,000 in this time and age, something must be wrong somewhere,” he reiterated.
He added that Uasin Gishu County government will use a whooping Sh60 million to pay for the 600 students from the first day till the last day, where they will graduate and that each ward will have 20.
