The government is keen to market tourism products across the 47 counties as a way of attracting tourists into the country.
Tourism Principal Secretary Said Athman announced that Kenya Tourism Board had been allocated Sh1.2 billion this financial year to market the country.
Athman said there are beautiful tourism products in the counties that go unnoticed.
“We have the potential, the national government is coming in to help counties to package their products and market them both nationally and internationally,” he said.
He said the country has suffered in the recent past due to perceptions on insecurity.
Speaking in Kisumu on Monday during a stakeholders’ forum on tourism, Athman said the Board has been mandated to aggressively market Kenya as the best tourism destination.
He further announced that the government will assist counties to package the tourism products to remain attractive to tourists.
Athman said there is a huge tourism potential in counties that needs to be harnessed.
He said the government will step in and support counties in tourism product development.
Athman announced the national government will assist Kisumu County to realize its dream of putting cruise ships in Lake Victoria to tap on the lake’s tourism potential.
