Water, roads and health are the priority projects that should be heavily funded; a parliamentary select committee on budget allocation has been told.
At a public hearing held in Kisii town, the committee was asked to ensure water is given sufficient allocation in the 2016/2017 financial year since it is a key development booster, especially in agriculture.
Participants drawn from the Kisii County highlighted the issue of water for both domestic and irrigation purposes, asking the parliament to ensure enough funds are allocated to water projects in the regions.
They claimed that little economic empowerment could be realised without residents being supplied with water to enable them to initiate agricultural projects.
“Government should increase some funding to the health sector for it remains key in the county and we want more improvement to be made in the counties,” added Denis Mogambi a resident from Magena.
Another resident from Suneka Eric Kingo’ina called upon the national government to consider starting up more development projects that will see them empowered economically.
“We want the government to ensure our roads are tarmacked to help farmers access the markets from their farms,” he added.
