Speaking in Thika town on Saturday, area Member of Parliament MP Alice Ng’ang’a said it will be necessary for the government to put in place security measures in schools to avert any attacks.

She said that as schools re-open for the second term, the government too must plan on how to provide more security for students and teachers especially in boarding schools.

“I urge the government to make sure that more security personnel are deployed to schools to provide security to students,” she said.

While remembering the Garissa attack that saw 148 students killed by terror group Al-Shabaab in April, the legislator said that security of students must be guaranteed.

“We don’t want to take chances with security. The national government in collaboration with the county must provide security,” she said.

Ng’ang’a further asked school managements to also work with security agencies on proper safety measures.

The MP at the same time urged police in Thika to conduct intensive patrols and deal with criminals.

She said law enforcers have resources which they should use to protect residents.

The Member of Parliament also urged residents to be on the lookout and report instances of crime or threats they might encounter.
