The National Level competitions of the 91st Edition of the Kenya Music Festival begin on Monday at the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology in Kakamega County.
The Festival is a forum for students to interact, learn, practice and appreciate their culture and that of other communities through various genres of art.
The theme of the 2017 Festival is: “Enhancing National Unity, Cohesion and Integration through Kenya Music Festival”.
Learners from Early Childhood Development, Primary and Secondary schools, Middle level and Vocational colleges and University students will take part in the festival—those whose schools floored competitors at County and Regional levels from across the country.

The Ministry partnered with various organizations, notably Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) which is participating in the Festival for the second time, as Title and Thematic Sponsor.
In particular, CBK’s sponsorship of the Festival seeks to provide an opportunity for the youth to grow their financial literacy and showcase their artistic talents through music and poetry.
This partnership with the Ministry of Education demonstrates the value that CBK places on the nurturing and development of youth talent and the next crop of leaders.
Students from Primary and Secondary Schools, Middle Level and Vocational Colleges as well as Universities will have an opportunity to participate in the CBK sponsored category, singing the theme song “Twajivunia Benki Kuu Ya Kenya”. CBK, also looks forward to an exemplary display of talent in the creative choral verse compositions based on its theme: “Promoting Financial Stability, A Sound National Payments System and a Vibrant Financial Sector”.
As a co-curricular activity in the Ministry of Education calendar, the Kenya Music Festival provides an opportunity for gifted students to develop and showcase their talents on a national platform.
