Kisumu residents were on Wednesday urged to maintain peace before, during and after the general elections.

The Peace and Prayer initiative was held at Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) church in Kisumu.

The function was graced by hundreds of worshipers who joined in echoing the message of peace.

While speaking at the event, Rev Vincent Obonyo, who is also a coordinator of the initiative, said that his team was preaching oneness in all counties.

“We have already traversed 22 counties, Kisumu is the 23rd one,” he said.

He continued to mention that the Prayer caravan is giving more emphasis to Kisumu, Mombasa and Nairobi counties.

According to the events’ coordinators, these areas are more susceptible to violence during electioneering periods in the country.

Rev Isaac Olang’ of CITAM church, said that National Prayer Caravan was non-partisan.

“We are not affiliated to any political party, we are solely sponsored by a cluster of Bishops and churches countrywide,” said Rev Olang’.

Rev Olang’ continued to mention that for the country to achieve its vision, then citizens must love one another and be prayerful.

“The successful destiny of Kenya can only be defined in prayer,” he said.

He finally stated that election is a gate that the nation uses to get its leaders.

He said that it is opening that gives citizens a chance of bringing in good leaders and send home bad leaders.

“We must avoid violence by all means and use this chance to better our country,” said Rev. Olang’.

The caravan will visit Kisii, Homabay and Bomet among other counties that they had not visited on Thursday May 25.

The climax event will be held this Saturday at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) Nairobi.
