[Photo/Busia County Government]The trip of three teams from Teso South for the national Scouts competition that is due to start at Rawalan Scouting headquarters in Kibera Nairobi on Tuesday has aborted after the regional department under the Ministry of Education failed to release activity funds meant for extra curriculum activities.St Paul's Okokoro and St Teresa Girls Boarding Primary School and St Monica Chakol Girls Secondary school might not feature for the games unless good Samaritans move in with speed to facilitate the teams' travel to the Capital City. The winners of the competition will represent Kenya for the East African Scouting Competition scheduled for this month.Sources revealed Nerobi Primary in Matayos sub-county and Kolanya Boys High School in Teso North have already left for Nairobi. Also failing to make the competition is Budalangi Secondary School.Okokoro had qualified for the national competition for the first time. "Denying them an opportunity to honor the event will kill their morale," an education official who spoke on condition of anonymity said. The source said in January while releasing Free Primary and Secondary Education funds, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education Belio Kipsang directed school heads in a circular to release Sh100 per pupil and Sh500 per student to the sub-county, county, and regional education officers," the source said and wondered where the funds were channeled. The teams to the East African games will camp in Busia for two days before they leave for Kampala.
