National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale on Friday said the National Security Council has powers to deploy the security officers to specific areas without necessarily seeking parliamentary approval since the House is not in session.
“The National Security Council is mandated to deploy KDF and other security officers to areas where lives and properties of Kenyans are at risk,” said Duale.
The Garissa township Mp asked the security officers to take a legal against politicians and supporters who will intend to disrupt peace during the elections.
Duale added that KDF should protect citizens without intimidation.
The vocal legislater warned that NASA's plan to field 5 polling agents at every polling station across the country will lead to chaos.
Duale asked NASA leader Raila Odinga to stop unnecessary attacks toward acting Interior Cs Fred Matiang'i after he directed that only 1 polling agent should be allowed.
Duale's remarks comes after NASA moved to court to stop the deployment of armed forces to areas perceived as possible violence hotspots ahead of the August 8 polls.
Duale is defending his seat on a Jubilee party ticket and will battle it out with his main rival Farah Maalim of Wiper party.
