The National water projects under the National collector Tunnel in Murang’a budget has been increased from Sh350 Million to Sh500 million.
The announcement was made by the Deputy President William Ruto during the opening of a Constituency Development Fund in Maragwa, Murang'a County on Saturday.
“The increase in the budget is meant to address water scarcity issues in Murang`a County,” said Ruto.
This comes after residents of Murang`a County voiced their frustrations over the government`s reluctance in addressing water issues in the County.
The opposition leader Raila Odinga in the past has said that the water project in Murang`a will have negative effects on people living around the Tana River basin, Murang'a, Garissa and Ukambani.
The Cabinet Secretary for Water Eugene Wamalwa refuted the allegations saying that very project was launched by the Very Odinga when he was The Prime Minister at the grand coalition government.
The project is meant for the good will of the Nairobi and Murang`a residents and any allegations by the opposition are pure propaganda added Wamalwa.
