NAWASSCO acting boss James Ng’ang’a said that the current acute shortage of water supply being witnessed in Nakuru will only be sorted out by fixing the broken pumps at the boreholes in Menengai and Bahati.

Speaking Friday when he inspected the Bahati borehole, Ng’ang’a said that the current water pumps have overstayed and need to be replaced.

He said NAWASSCO is financially constrained and cannot fully fund for the replacement of the pumps, and asked the government to step in help them.

“We have a big problem because nearly all the pumps at the major boreholes have broken down and even if we keep repairing them it will not help because the pumps have over lived their time and we need to install new pumps to solve this problem once and for all.

“Our main problem is the lack of finance and we are appealing to any well wisher and our county government to think of how they can help us so that we can sort out this problem,” said Ng’ang’a.

He added that they have already repaired the broken old pump but that it will not be long before it breaks down again.

“Yes we have fixed the old pump but the question is for how long it will last before breaking down again,” he said.

There has been an acute shortage of water supply in Nakuru for the past two weeks, after the Bahati borehole pump broke down.
