Church leaders in Thika West sub-county have been urged to embrace mentorship programmes for the youth in an effort to fight social challenges facing them.

Laban Mwangi, the sub-county youth officer on Wednesday said young people are faced with numerous challenges that range from lack of social support from their community, low self-esteem and alcoholism calling for urgent intervention by the church to save the situation.

“Youth mentorship programmes have lately declined in this region and as a result most young people have become less innovative, a move that has rendered a majority jobless.

Church leaders need to come together and save our young people from ruining through mentorship programmes,” he said.

He urged the youth department in the region to encourage young people to become active members in the community through engaging them in constructive activities.
