The National Construction Authority (NCA) is seeking to professionalise the construction industry to get rid of quacks that have plagued the industry for long, Thika Region NCA Officer Isaiah Achini has said.
Achini has said that there is a need to regulate the construction industry in Kenya which he said is in dire need of skilled professionals who can be relied to deliver quality work.
Speaking in Thika town on Thursday, Achini said that NCA is committed to ensuring that those getting into construction have quality training and are competent in their various fields of training.
"It will no longer be business as usual in the construction industry because with NCA around professionalism is a must. As the industry regulators, we are very keen on getting rid of quacks through coordinating training for skilled construction workers and accrediting construction site supervisors and engineers," said Achini.
He said that lack of professionalism in the industry had at times led to loss of lives through faulty buildings that collapse during construction or after construction.
"Some construction companies have been coordinating with us to offer their workers some expertise and small training programs where they learn about construction which is a positive move towards professionalising the industry," he said.
He urged Thika residents who may be intending to come up with new constructions to ensure their constructions are approved by NCA and the leading workforce at the construction site accredited by the regulatory body.
