The National Construction Authority (NCA) boss in Kisii, Mr Lucas Adwera has warned constructors and land owners against constructing buildings without the authority of the agency.

Speaking in Jogoo area on Saturday during a crackdown on buildings, Mr Adwera, cited ignorance and corruption as the main reason why houses collapse in the region.

"These buildings that are marked with the letter X are dangerous for human cohabitation. They might collapse anytime," said Mr Adwera.

He further warned constructors who ignore instructions from NCA that action will be taken against them.

"I will ensure that all those who ignore NCA regulations that they will face the full force of the law," he said.

He said that owners of all the buildings that have been marked but have people living in them to ensure that they vacate after exactly one week.

In the past two years three buildings have collapsed causing deaths of tens of people. 

Last year, a building collapsed in Mwembe area, Kisii county killing seven people on the spot and leaving many others injured. 

Speaking during the incident, Governor James Ongwae promised to lias with NCA to ensure that all buildings were up to standard.
