Karanja wants Machakos residents to remain calm and peaceful amid political anxiety in the county.

Speaking during the official opening of the NCCK Lower Eastern region conference at ABC Bomani Church in Machakos on Tuesday, Karanja asked politicians to unite their supporters.

He said there is no need for politicians to engage in hateful debates following the recent political developments.

“We are urging Machakos residents and their leaders to remain calm and embrace unity following the new political developments,” Karanja said.

The NCCK Secretary-General said the time when politics was used to settle scores is over and that elected leaders must learn to tolerate each other.

Karanja was speaking in relation to the Court of Appeal's ruling that nullified Governor Alfred Mutua’s election.

Mutua lost the seat after the appellate court ruled that he was not validly elected as governor.

The court ordered the IEBC to conduct a fresh gubernatorial election in conformity with the constitution.

Mutua has since appealed the ruling at the Supreme Court even as political excitement and anxiety grips the Machakos County.

Several politicians considered as Mutua’s political enemies have welcomed the ruling, saying that the Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader has failed.

On Tuesday, Mutua suffered another blow after the County Assembly voted to have him impeached.
