A commissioner at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has linked Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi to the formation of the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC).
Speaking during a stakeholders meeting in Hola, Tana River County on Thursday, NCIC commissioner Morris Dzoro claimed the two governors were the masterminds of the formation of the outlawed secessionist movement.
"These two individuals were the brains behind the Mombasa Republican Council that propagated hate and divisive politics with the aim of causing chaos in the traditionally peaceful region," said Dzoro, as quoted by the kenyanewsagency.go.ke.
He further claimed the duo also supported the proponents of 'Pwani si Kenya' during the reign of retired President Mwai Kibaki.
"These are the same people that supported the proponents of ' Pwani si Kenya' during the Mwai Kibaki regime before Ananiah Mwaboza and I neutralised MRC," he added.
The commissioner claimed the county bosses have sold land in the Coast region to foreigners, adding that the region’s secession will allow the foreigners to grab land belonging to residents.
He challenged the two to account for the money they have been receiving from the national government.
“Joho and Kingi have mismanaged the little they have received under devolution, how can they be trusted with an entire region?” he asked.
Joho and Kingi are pushing for the secession of the Coast region arguing that it would solve the problems facing the region such as marginalization by the national government.
