National Cohesion and Integration Commission are engaged in a countrywide after-poll peace forums in a bid to bring together Kenyans after conflict-ridden elections.Speaking in Garissa, Commissioner Prof Gitile Naituli said elections are practically over and Kenyans ought to move on and support the country for better future.He said other commissioners are also involved in the same peace forums in different parts of the country including western, Nyanza, Tana River amongst other areas.The country has witnessed intense electioneering period after Nasa flag bearer Raila Odinga refused to participate in the repeat elections on October 26 after August 8th were annulled by the supreme court. “Our message to Kenyans is that elections come and go, we need to support one another and build our country, there is a need for Kenyans to copy from Zimbabwe who had a change of guard without any violence,” he said in a peace forum in a Garissa hotel.The commissioner at the same time appealed to leaders to avoid inciting their supporters adding that in Zimbabwe peaceful transition has been shown through their leaders.He said President Kenyatta should now go forward to unify the country which has been divided along tribal lines.“Kenyans leaders should now strife to unite all Kenyans instead of dividing us, Kenyans should understand that whether or not we supported a leader once elected he belongs all of us and we need to support that leader,” he added. The commissioner at the same time defended the commission for being ‘toothless dog’ saying there are many elected leaders who have been charged with hate speech.“There are over 300 cases of hate speech some involving elected leaders, these cases are in court in various stages though slow,” he said.Prof Naituli praised Garissa County for being peaceful after intense elections Kenyans from other should borrow a leaf.
