The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has announced the resignation of Commissioner Belinda Ochiel.

In a statement sent to newsrooms on Wednesday, the commission said Mrs Ochiel’s  resignation was  effective May 4, 2017.

“His Excellency the President Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta accepted her resignition in a letter dated 4thMay, 2017,” reads the statement in part.

“Commissioner Belinda took up a new role  at the  Ford Foundation- Human Rights  and Social Justice Institution which has presence in Kenya, Africa and Europe. She worked at NCIC for  two years and seven months where she spearheaded key programmes on peace buiding, inclusion and harmonious coexiestance,” said Hassan Mohammed, NCIC secretary.

Mohammed said the former commissioner championed youth programmes across the 47 counties and chaired the Research Committee at the Commission.

“As the chair of Research Committee, she greatly contributed to the development of  research studies and policies on key thematic areas such as Ethnic and Diversity Audits for Universities, Commissions, Counties and Parastatals; and the Study on Gangs and their Impact on Peaceful co-existence in Kenya.”
