Kisumu county has been identified by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) as one of the counties likely to experience violence in 2017.

The Commission mapped the county as "problematic and requires close monitoring," failure to which may lead to instability.

The Commission's Chairman Francis Ole Kaparo said on Monday his Commission "is doing a lot more to ensure no violence rocks the 2017 general elections."

The report which was released on Monday mapped eighteen other counties including Nairobi and Mombasa as counties at risk of violence.

Kenya experience violence during the 2007 general election which claimed over 1,000 lives.

The violence led to six Kenyans charged for committing war crimes and crimes against humanity. 

Their cases were however, dropped.
