Kenyans have been cautioned, against propagating hate messages on social media as the August 8 general election nears.

National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Commissioner Joseph Nasongo has indicated that they are monitoring Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter platforms to curb cases of hate speech and incitement.

"We are appealing to the public not to spread hate messages. The law is clear on freedom of expression and its limits," he said during the launch of 'Safe and Responsible use of Internet Guides in Schools', over the weekend.

According to him, a lot of sending hate messages on social media, thinking they can not be arrested.

Speaking at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development in Nairobi, Nasongo warned that anyone spreading such messages on the said platforms this electioneering period, will be dealt with, as per the law.
