According to the commission chairman Francis Ole Kaparo the commission is preparing guidelines that will ensure that hate mongers are barred from seeking elective seats.

The commission chairman said that they are working with the Registrar of Political parties and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on guidelines that will ensure hate mongers are locked out of elective seats.

“We are taking a raft of measures aimed at curbing hate speech among politicians,” he said on Tuesday during a joint press briefing with the Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro.

The NCIC chairman said that the guidelines will see politicians and individuals seeking elective posts required to get a certificate of social cohesion.

Kaparo said the commission is also developing guidelines in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Communication to regulate social media usage.

He observed hate mongers were using social media to instigate hate speech.

On Tuesday Kaparo warned hate mongers saying that their acts will no longer be tolerated.

Several MPs have already been arraigned in court on Tuesday over alleged incitement.
