Addressing the press at Nakuru town on Thursday, the commission’s vice chairperson Irene Wanyoike said that they want to know the criteria being used by county governments to hire staff and distribution of resources.

She said, “Most counties are not following set rules and procedures in staff hiring. We will commission an audit on the process of hiring in counties,” she said.

The commissioner stated that counties have to follow rules to ensure equality in terms of staff hiring and resource allocation.

She discouraged county governments against hiring only people who reside in their counties saying that staff should be diverse.

“We have heard cases where almost 100 per cent of staff in counties are from the same area,” she said.

At the same time, the vice chairperson warned politicians and individuals against incitement saying that the law will catch up with them.

She said that the commission has set in place measures to monitor and curb hate speech especially from politicians. Wanyoike warned that no one caught spewing hate speech and incitement messages will be spared.

She also asked members of the public to work with them as they strive to spearhead cohesion and peace across the country.

The official said that every citizen has a role to play in peace and cohesion building which she noted are critical for socio-economic development.
