The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has now warned that the forthcoming general elections could throw the country into anarchy.
Speaking earlier in the week, the commission's Vice Chairperson Irene Wanyoike reiterated European Union election observers' sentiments about possible political violence, challenging the electoral agency IEBC to ensure free, fair and credible polls.
“There is a serious risk of violence because politicians are beating the drums of war but we can stop this if all of discharge our responsibilities as required under the law,” she stated.
She was, however, quick to note that warning of possible poll violence was not an affirmation that there will be chaos, urging Kenyans to shun divisive leaders.
“The commission notes that issue based politics will deepen democratisation and enhance long term stability, peace and development for Kenya,” she said.
