Farmers have, for weeks now, been lamenting the move by the government to suspend the purchase of maize from local farmers.

Farmers have also complained that the buying process conducted by NCPB has been rather slow leading to long queues around silos.

"Like you seeing the huge numbers of lorries are lining right from the cereal board to town centre as we expect to deliver maize to the board." John Kipng'etich,'' farmer in Eldoret, said.

However, the NCPB through its CEO, Mr.Newton Terel has promised to clear the queues by Tuesday and to make sure no farmer remains in the lines.

"I have undertaken that those people who are in the queues as we are talking. Have actually instructed my manager to make sure by Tuesday, none of those people in the queues is still in the queue," said Mr. Terel.

With the move by the government to import maize from Uganda, many farmers have ended up being stranded not knowing what to do.

In Eldoret for instance, hundreds of maize farmers were yesterday turned away by the NCPB with the board claiming that the silos were full.

Not able to sell their produce to the board, maize farmers have complained of losses and expenses such as transport cost and rotting of maize.

This has hence translated to a difficult life for the maize farmers in the North Rift.

Delayed payments and expenses such as school fees have become a challenge to most parents.

"To hire a vehicle we need money, we pay the drivers..This is what farmers use to pay fees. The maize we bought last time we are yet to be paid," Another farmer, Sang', complained.
