National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) has revealed the cause of the Thursday's 4 am fire outbreak at the Eldoret depot.

According to  (NCPB) spokesman Titus Maiyo, the fire was caused due to an electrical fault in one of the driers.

“I can confirm that there was some fire outbreak in one of the driers at the Eldoret NCPB depot at around 4 am Thursday morning, but with the help of county firefighters everything was contained and therefore no cause of the alarm,” he said in Eldoret town, Thursday.

“There was no much damage which was caused by the outbreak since the drier was empty and I thank the county firefighters for their prompt action, the situation could be unbearable if the fire had spread to the adjacent Silos surviving as the strategic food reserve,” he added.

The fire outbreak comes at a time when hundreds of farmers are lined up to deliver their maize produce to the NCPB depot in the grain basket.
