National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) has released Sh1 billion to pay farmers who delivered their maize.
According to (NCPB) spokesman Titus Maiyo, Sh5.7 billion has been paid to farmers since they started buying maize from them
“Last week we released Sh1 billion to pay farmers who delivered their maize in our various depots across the country. The delay in prompt payment is caused by the Treasury not releasing the funds on time but as NCPB we assure farmers that we will pay them as soon as we receive the money,” he said in Eldoret town, Monday.
“Farmers should not be worried because they will all receive their payments since as I am talking we only owe farmers sh I billion only,” he added.
He, however, said that National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) will continue buying maize from farmers.
"So far we have bought 1.7 million 90 kg bags of maize across the country and we urge more farmers to bring their produce and avoiding selling them to middlemen at a throwaway price," he added.
