Farmers in Uasin Gishu County have expressed their worry over the continued fluctuation of maize and wheat prices.
The farmers now want the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to intervene and alleviate the situation.
Their leader, Moira Chepkok and the Director of Kenya Farmers Association (KFA), Kipkorir Menjo, have asked NCPB to buy the cereals from the farmers to ensure middlemen do not dupe them.
"NCPB should always be available on time to buy the cereals from farmers during harvesting time", said Chepkok.
"We have realised that farmers have become labourers rather than owners," she added.
Menjo urged the government to reduce fertilizer prices as well as increase the prices of the cereals to benefit farmers.
"We want the government to intervene and reduce the price of fertilisers and seeds while raising the price of the cereals so that farmers can benefit", said Menjo.
Speaking at the same time, Moiben MP Silas Tilen said that he will take a bill to Parliament that will see NCPB receive more funds to be able to buy maize from farmers.
They were speaking in Moiben during a farmers' day meeting.
