Kenya Farmers Association (KFA) director Kipkorir Arap Menjo has urged National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to speed up the process of receiving maize from farmers.

He said something has to be done since there are very long ques being experienced

“I want to urge NCPB to device other methods of ensuring that farmers don’t stay long in ques before presenting their maize since the cue at the moment is almost 4 kilometers,” he said in Eldoret town, Tuesday.

“They should at least serve 100-150 lorries per day for there to be sanity since farmers are spending a lot of money for transportation and employing guard. Something needs to be done to end this mess,” he added.

He, however, urged farmers from the region to ensure they purchase certified seeds from licensed dealers to enable them to get high yields and prevent crops from attack by pests and diseases.

“I know we are heading to the planting season farmers should be on the watch of businessmen selling uncertified seeds and fertilizers which leads to low or no yields,” noted Menjo.

 “Farmers should always carry out soil testing before planting or using any type of fertilizers this will help our officers to know the soils potential hydrogen (PH) and thus be able to recommend on the best type of crop to be grown and the fertilizers to be applied,” he added.
