National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) North Rift regional coordinator Moses Ouma has urged Kenyans to practice family planning as a means of birth control.

He said Kenyans should get children that they can raise comfortably.

“The high population growth rate in the country contributes to economic difficulties, hence need for couples to plan their families in a way that they can manage without stress,” he said in his office, Tuesday.

“Increased access to reproductive health services and use of contraceptives leads to a decrease in maternal mortality,” he added.

He, however, called upon county and national governmernts to put more funds in family planning to manage population.

“County and national governments should allocate funds to sponsor family planning and development campaigns in the country and also sensitize them on its importance,” noted Ouma.

He revealed that the current birth rate in Uasin Gishu County is five children per family which calls for more sensitization on family planning.

"Statistics show that Uasin Gishu County is a youthful population, 42 per cent are 15 years and below, 55.7 per cent are 15-64 years while 65 years is 3% of the population,” he added.
