National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPD) on Wednesday announced subsidized fertilizer will be supplied in to Kiambu county regions.
Speaking to the press, Kelvin Muraya the board director in Kiambu County announced that with the help of different MCAs, the board will ensure all farmers benefit from the exercise which is entitled to take one week
“Kiambu farmers will easily access the fertilizer after NCPB with the help of the national and county government will supply the latter at a lower cost, every farmer will be entitled to register for this course through their county assembly offices near them. We have reduced the cost from Sh 1800 to Sh 1200 per bag of fertiliser,” he said.
Muraya revealed that they’ve received complaints from various farmers who were requesting for a price reduction. His office called upon the government to reduce the price by reducing import taxes which it did.
Kiambu County will receive DAP type of fertilizer which according to Muraya fits the region.
“Many parts of the country will receive NPK type of fertiliser but as for Kiambu which is known to have a stable climatic condition will receive DAP which fits the regions climate,” he added.
Farmers were however urged to top dress their crops for high production to enable them benefit from surplus crops which can be sold to make an extra coin for the farmers.
