More than 100 residents of Ndalani in Yatta sub-county on Monday demolished a fence of a piece of land believed to be belong to a private developer.

The irate residents threatened to frog march the said developer to the police station if he shows up.

Mrs Esther Ndunda, who claims the piece of land says the land was not in use until last year when his son decided to build her a house on it and the developer emerged with papers, insisting that he had bought the land from her late husband.

The woman went o court but lost the case as the developer, an unknown man, had all the necessary documents contrary to her and bribed his way out.

She was evicted in March this year by the developer and has been living on a neighbours land when she erected a temporary house to sustain her for the time being. She explained to the press how her efforts to seek justice from the authorities including the land office in Machakos town have been futile.

Yatta OCPD Edward Kipsang said that the public had not sought any permission to conduct the protest which happened after the demolition and thus the officers were forced to disperse them using tear gas and firing in the air.

He has said that the case should;d be settled in court and not taking the law on their hand. Condemning the incident, he said that the blame is to the police that didn't stop the public from demolishing a person's property.

The situation is back to normal and the residents have vowed not to give anyone a chance to construct anything on the land.
