Sky diving and such like activities are a reserve for the well to do but the sceneries where they happen are a beauty not many should miss.

When it comes to Kiambu, there are several places which would tingle people’s spines just beholding the beauty.

In Limuru, there’s a not-so-sleepy village called Ndiûni or Ndiû-ini. The latter according to myths could have been attributed to the presence of vultures which are known as 'Ndiiû' in the local dialect.

This is where Githûngûchû Primary School is located. Then there is ‘Mboroti’ corrupted from ‘Plots’ which is on the escarpment of the Rift Valley. At this magnificent place, Mûkoma High School is perched.

The area has such beautiful scenery of the valley below that the sunsets are magical.

During the rainy seasons, and after the mist clears, the great corner on the Great North Road is visible and also some places like Maai Mahiu, the ‘elite’ Kijabe Community area and so many more.

Also, ‘Satellite’ which is a place is visible from this escarpment. Now, this place is where the earth satellite is located. According to those who have been to the valley below, the satellite is a heavily guarded post. It is among the pioneer such telecom infrastructure in East Africa.

A few more such structures have come and Longonot is not the only one in the country. This is a story for another day though.

Back to the scenery and there is an array of flora and fauna with some being only found hidden in the crevices of the huge rocks on the escarpment. Have you heard about the ‘Stone of Fear’ or ‘Ihiga ria Guoya’? if not, this will be coming to you in a short while.

Now, the outcropping rocks are home to several species of lizards, insects, snakes and rock badgers among others. Boys herding animals could always hunt them a few years ago when the place was still lush and undisturbed.

And to skydiving.

I’m not sure that that is what it should but there have been occasions where tourists have been taking the ‘plunge’ and glide from the escarpment. To make it more worthwhile, this is a photographer’s paradise.

So put on those boots and be ready to scale the escarpment from the Limuru side. You’ll not be disappointed visiting ‘Ndeiya Ng’ombe’ in this century.

Kiambu has numerous tourist sites which are yet to be explored.

I miss home…
