Kiambu First Lady Philomena Kabogo has asked Ndeiya Ward women to seek development funds and improve their lives.
Speaking when she toured the ward on Tuesday, the first lady said that the government has taken the initiatives to empower women economically.
She said that women have an opportunity to improve their economic welfare by applying for the funds.
“Women should take advantage of the development funds being given by the government and take part in development,” she said.
Mrs Kabogo said that empowering women is critical to the realization of socio-economic development.
She observed women had been neglected by the previous governmets adding that the Uhuru Kenyatta government recognizes the role of women in development.
She added that the county government is working on policies that will ensure women are fully engaged in development matters.
The first lady also urged women to take part in governance by airing the views and opinions on policies and laws being formulated by the county government.
She indicated that various forums have been put in place to allow locals to channel their concerns and grievances.
Meanwhile, the first lady said that measures have been put in place to ensure women especially those who are pregnant have access to medical care.
She said that the health of pregnant mothers is critical for the development and survival of the unborn babies.
Kabogo called on pregnant women to seek antenatal medical care saying it will curb child delivery complications.
The governor's wife said the county government is committed to improve access to health care for locals which she observed is critical for develoment.
