CCU leader Wavinya Ndeti scolded IEBC clerks for denying her information on voter registration progress on Friday.

Ndeti had just launched her Machakos County three day voter registration sensitization campaign in Mlolongo town before getting to the Athi River centre where she was received coldly by the three clerks on duty.

She accused the clerks of working in favor of her political opponents.

“I have a right to information as a citizen and leader, you should be giving me the information with ease unless you are working in favor of my opponents,” said Ndeti.

She said the electoral body had requested political parties to help in mobilization of legible electorates in the ongoing voter registration across the country.

“We are helping the IEBC mobilize residents to turn up in numbers and register as voters, you should cooperate with leaders to ensure the exercise is successful,” said Ndeti.

Ndeti said IEBC officials and clerks should give relevant information and updates on the registration exercise progress to leaders for them to mobilize locals from informed perspective.

After a long argument with the clerks, Ndeti was given updates on the registration progress in Mavoko Sub County.

The clerks said exercise was progressing well and they had achieved a 60% registration target in the sub county as per the IEBC projection.

Ndeti seemed satisfied with the information and thanked the clerks for doing commendable job.

The former Kathiani MP later confirmed her registration status at the centre before proceeding with her sensitization campaign to Kyumbi and Machakos town respectively.

“I have confirmed my registration details, all are correct. I vote at Athi River town social hall in Athi River Township ward as confirmed by the clerks on BVR kit,” said Ndeti.

She urged unregistered residents to take advantage of the few days remaining to register as voters.

Ndeti said those holding voter cards should be ambassadors in the mobilization campaign.

She said she will return to Athi River, her home turf to scout for votes in a door to door campaign for her Machakos gubernatorial bid.
