Former Kibwezi Member of Parliament (MP) Kalembe Ndile has supported calls to have former Anglican Church Bishop Eliud Wabukala head the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Ndile says that Wabukala is the right man for the job and that IEBC needs a neutral person who cannot be influenced by political forces.
“I support the calls to have Wabukala or any other outstanding religious leader to be at the helm of IEBC,” he said.
Ndile noted that for transparent elections in 2017 the IEBC must get the right chair and commissioners.
The former MP also faulted calls to have IEBC commissioners nominated by political parties.
He said that nominated commissions will have vested interests and controlled by their masters.
The former MP asked the joint parliamentary committee handling the IEBC matter to expedite its work and give recommendations.
Several politicians across the political divide want Wabukala to be appointed as IEBC chair.
The politicians among them Moses Kuria of Gatundu South say that Wabukala has the needed qualities to be the next IEBC boss.
