The members of the Ogiek and Ndorobo communities have held a demonstration in Eldoret town demanding that the government resettles them in an alternative land or they be compensated.
The two communities were allegedly evicted from the Mau Forest in the year 2006 by the previous regime.
Led by their leader Joshua Kuto on Wednesday, the demonstrators said that they are forced to bury their dead relatives at night in the forests so they are not arrested.
"The government promised to resettle us immediately. It is now close to ten years and we are still squatters in our own country," Kuto said.
They have said that their children no longer attend school for lack of adequate shelter.
"As residents of Nontoroto we are living in abject poverty. We do not even have anything to feed our children. We are appealing to the government to intervene," said Esther Yatoro, the group's treasurer.
They are worried that the festive season might just pass them like that as there is nothing for them to celebrate.
