A man is receiving treatment at the Kiambu District Hospital after his wife allegedly poisoned him before trying to kill herself in Ndumberi, Kiambu Sub-County.

Confirming the incident, Kiambu OCPD Stephen Ng’etich said that the man was poisoned by the wife after a domestic quarrel early that morning over what is alleged to be infidelity.

He added that the wife suspected the husband was having an affair with another woman after he came home the previous night very late.

Ng’etich said that the couple’s six-year-old son who had woken up to prepare for school found his dad lying on the sofa holding his abdomen in pain. The man then struggled and told the boy to call for help from neighbours.

Diana Wanjiru, who responded to the distress call, said the boy came to her house crying for help. She then called her husband who went to the victim’s house and allegedly found him writhing in pain.

“We called for help and my husband and other men took the man to hospital. I tried calling the boy’s mother and she wasn’t responding but I could hear some movements. So I went in with two other women and we found her trying to commit suicide.”

The police boss explained that neighbours who responded found a cup of coffee that the wife had prepared on the table with two mandazis. However, they found the wife in the bedroom trying to hang herself.

He stated that investigations were still underway and the woman will be charged in a court. He advised couples to resolve their issues in a proper manner other than committing a crime that will find them in jail.

Attending to the man at Kiambu Hospital Dr George Njenga said the victim was poisoned but was responding well to treatment. He added that it would take time to get out of the condition.
