Kikuyu sub-county politics has become more complicated after multi-millionaire Owen Ndung’u Wanjiku expressed interest in the area MP seat.
Ndung’u will be battling it out with MP Kimani Ichung’wa who is his long-term political rival.
Kikuyu residents are most popular for their activeness in the political matters and recently have been seen holding gatherings in social places mainly to discuss political aspirants for the August election.
The real estate mogul from Dallas was vying for the Kikuyu Parliamentary seat on a TNA ticket in the last general election but finished second in the contest.
Both Kimani and Ndung’u were contesting for the seat formerly held by Lewis Nguyai.
After Ichung’wa beat Ndung'u, there were mixed reactions from residents claiming that the polls were not fairly conducted.
Ndung’u was pitted against three other candidates Milton Njoroge, Dominic Wamagata and Engineer Kahenya.
He seems to have shaken Kikuyu after his return as he has already been seen in many gatherings.
In a phone interview, he revealed that people are positive and expectant about him.
Despite the politics, both Kimani and Ndung’u have been heard and quoted preaching peace as the next general elections are around the corner.
“I am very ready to face Kimani in the next general elections and I am very energetic and expectant. I can see how people are happy about my comeback and I am set for the contest,” he said.
Majority of the residents are hopeful that upcoming nominations will be free and fair.
“We will vote for the leader that will sell his manifestos to us and we will condemn corruption with the highest terms possible,” says a Kikuyu resident who seeks anonymity.
Other candidates who have announced to be facing the two giants are Eng Kahenya while others are yet to announce their parliamentary bid.
