The county government of Nakuru has been challenged to streamline the issuance of educational bursaries to avert corruption and ensure needy cases benefit.
Bahati Member of Parliament Kimani Ngunjiri said some students were benefiting concurrently from bursaries separately issued by the President’s office, the County Government and Members of Parliament.
Speaking during the 13th graduation ceremony at the Rift Valley Institute of Business Studies, the MP called for a scrutiny to all potential beneficiaries of bursary funds as some cases that had been funded were undeserving.
He said this will help avoid corruption and duplicity in the issuance of bursaries.
“There are cases where one individual benefits from all the three kitties managed by the office of the president, the governor and Members of Parliament. That must come to a stop,” said Ngunjiri.
Governor Lee Kinyanjui said his office would only issue bursaries after an intensive audit of all applicants.
“The county government of Nakuru has issued bursaries to 1,200 students in middle-level colleges. I want a continuous review of technical training curriculum to enable the youth to acquire innovation and wealth creation skills,” said the governor.
