A single woman from Esani village in Nyamira County who has been living in abject poverty after being abandoned by her husband has a reason to smile after a section of politicians from the county contributed funds for her upkeep.

Mrs Dorcus Ombaba and her three children are said to have been going without food for several weeks till a Good Samaritan gave information to area residents.

On Thursday, a group of politicians led by Magombo MCA Ezra Mochiemo contributed over Sh200,000 that was put to the account to help her set a business for upkeep.

Mr Mochiemo challenged husbands to lead by example by helping their families rather than subjecting them to difficulties.

“I am glad that a Good Samaritan posted the pictures on our Nyamira Whatsap group and we had to respond. This was a serious case since the husband, Mr Jackson Ombaba, is said to have fled the country three years ago. I am glad with the humility and support from leaders and residents,” he said.

Mr Mochiemo urged residents to identify such cases in the county and report them for the sake of rescuing such situations.

“We cannot not just sit back and watch our people undergoing such stress. Those with the information have also an obligation to let the public know,” he added.

Mrs Ombaba expressed her optimism of taking her children to school and hailed the leaders for ‘taking her out of hell’.
