More than 50 form one students in Nakuru East Constituency will benefit with a scholarship programme initiated by area Member of Parliament through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Area MP David Gikaria said that the constituency will be using 10 to 25 percent of their CDF kitty on education.
“The selected bright students from poor backgrounds will benefit from the programme which is part of a strategic plan to prioritise education and eradicate poverty in the society,” noted Gikaria.
Gikaria said the constituency will be using more than 10 million of the CDF to support education related initiatives.
Gikaria was speaking while issuing CDF bursary cheques to students in the area.
Through the CDF committee, they were able to pick at least five bright but needy students from each ward in the constituency who had performed exemplary.
The children will have their fees paid by the CDF for four years.
Gikaria applauded the National Government for the free (day) secondary education which has raised enrolment from 800 000 pupils to the current figure of about two million students country wide.
