Needy students across Kisii County are set to benefit from bursary funds of Sh135 million, after the county’s education ministry released the cash and list of beneficiaries.
The county, through its Ministry of Education released a list of beneficiaries, which is available on all the county noticeboards in all ward offices.
The county advised the beneficiaries to refer cheques to the Sub-County accountants, and also collect their cheques from their respective ward administrators, who are secretaries to the ward bursary committees.
A total of 41,639 students in day secondary schools, national schools, boarding schools, universities and other tertiary institutions will benefit from the allocation.
Bursary committees in each of the 45 wards received and considered applications before recommending the beneficiaries for consideration for allocation by the county bursary board.
Each ward was allocated Sh3 million up from Shs1million in the previous financial year.
The objective of the fund is to boost transition rates by supporting needy students in the county to pursue their education in recognized institutions of learning.
