[Governor Jama who is seeking a second term in office. He has been accused of illegally siphoning public funds] (the-star.co.ke)A member of the Garissa County government has refuted allegations that some county officials were using county resources for campaigning for Governor Nathif Jama.
Mohamud Mursal (county secretary) said the claims had been hatched to de-campaign the count chief who is seeking a second term in office.Jama is facing a myriad of accusations from opponents ranging from corruption to county resource mismanagement.
“Politicians should stop issuing outrageous allegations. They should not politicise work of civil servants and stop dragging them into their campaigns. Let them provide evidence if they have any for the relevant bodies to investigate,” Mursal said.
He recently said he had written a circular to all county staff reminding them to remain neutral during campaigns. Gubernatorial aspirant and Ali Korane last month accused Jama of using county resources to campaign.
He alleged that senior county officials had been forced to campaign for Jama contrary to the Public Service Act that bans civil servants from participating in politics. Korane also claimed county vehicles were being used in Jama’s campaigns trails.
“I am privy of information that some senior civil servants are changing chassis of county government vehicles with the view of changing ownership,” he said.
“We will not allow this to happen. Nathif and his team are in panic mood and because they know they don’t have the numbers to recapture the seat, they have now resorted to looting and changing the inventory of government assets.”
He said Mursal who is charged with guarding county assets will be held responsible. Korane is vying for the gubernatorial post on a Jubilee ticket.
