Residents in Molo Township, Nakuru, killed a 45-year-old man, for allegedly 'raping' the corpse of his 15-year-old daughter.

It is believed Hassan Lang'at was attacked by irate villagers after he was caught in the act.

Witnesses said he came home drunk, and ordered the corpse be transferred to a different room, in line with the Kalenjin traditions, awaiting transportation to a mortuary.

According to Sarambei sub-location Assistant Chief, Joseph Ng'eno, the irate residents could not believe their eyes when they witnessed the incident, a move that made them angry.

He warned of such cases, saying: ''It is wrong for anyone to 'sleep' with a corpse.''

Ng'eno also warned residents from engaging in mob justice, saying the law should be taken, by relevant authorities and not through killings.

Community elders later met at the home for cleansing rituals, following the incident, to 'remove' bad omen.

The man's wife recorded a statement at the Mau Summit police post, Monday. The class six daughter died of a brain tumour.
