Residents of Magina in Lari were on Sunday asked to be more vigilant in ensuring community policing and Nyumba Kumi government security initiatives work.
This is after a businessman was attacked in the night and later died.
Police in the area said the businessman died from a gunshot he sustained from an attempted robbery at his home which is within rented premises with other 10 tenants.
The police did not understand why the neighbours never answered to the deceased man’s distress calls, since there was no way a gang could attack one home and the neighbours not hear the ensuing commotion.
Lari OCPD Alfred Makoma later confirmed the death of Peter Mungai, 38, that occurred at the AIC Kijabe Hospital. Mungai was shot in the stomach.
Police were still continuing investigations into the theft and also called on members of the public with information on the suspects to share it with them.
Crime scene police officers arrived at the businessman’s home and also at his business in Gichiengo and dusted it for fingerprints in attempts to capture the criminals.
Lari sub-county is among the first regions in Kenya where community policing was launched by the government of Kenya in partnership with the government of Sweden as a model that could be replicated in other parts of the country for improved security.
