According to Marwa, most of the attacks are happening in areas with Jubilee supporters and cautioned leaders in counties such as Mombasa to refrain from travelling to Lamu until the elections are over.

Lamu leaders Shakilla Abdalla, Hassan Albeity, and Rishad Amana believe the statements made by the Coast regional coordinator could incite violence.

On Tuesday, the leaders stated that it was "unwise and extremely thoughtless" for Marwa to make such claims and have asked him to withdraw his statements along with an apology.

Furthermore, Marwa has been told to identify the politicians responsible for financing the terrorists so that they can be dealt with accordingly.

"If he knows who these politicians are, let him come forward and name them. That way, parents who have lost their children and wives who have lost husbands will get closure,” Abdalla said as reported by The Star.

Abdalla highlighted that prosecuting terrorists is the responsibility of law enforcement and criticized Marwa for playing politics instead of implementing security in the region.

“How can a man of his stature just wake up and tell people that politicians in Lamu are funding terrorists? The people of Lamu don’t need narratives. We want security," she said.

This follows Jubilee’s trip to Lamu on Monday where President Uhuru Kenyatta assured locals that the government has implemented plans to handle terrorists.

"If they kill our police and our people, we shall do exactly that. We will deal with them in the same manner. No one has the right to take lives apart from God. We will finish them. The only way to put out fire it’s by fire," he said on Monday.
