In bid to ensure clean environment during this electioneering period, the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) has made an appeal to aspirants.

They have been asked to pay a fee to the Authority that will be used remove their posters after the August 8, elections are conducted.

Making the appeal, Nema Compliance and Enforcement Officer Zephania Ouma indicated said the deposit bond funds would be refundable, only if the political aspirants clear their posters pinned on walls, streets, postas, among other places.

“The bond will be deposited in the Nema Environment Restoration Fund account,'' said Ouma, adding that county governments would as well be included to make the exercise effective.

He revealed that the Council of Governors (CoG), Nema, and the Independent electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) would meet to deliberate on the exact fee, since the Environment Management Coordination Act 2013 does not stipulate how much should be paid as deposited.

“We will also deliberate on whether it will be the party or coalition to deposit the bond on behalf of aspirants or the individual aspirant. The recommendations of the meeting will be communicated in a week,” Ouma said, Tuesday.
