NEMA has claimed that still a number of Kenyans are using plastic bags despite the ban.

Jessica Kahura, NEMA Naivasha officer said lack of alternative packaging materials, ignorance from traders and consumers have affected the ban to be fully implemented.

"Traders have lacked alternative ways of packaging their products especially in the slums in production of water and juices," she said.

She said there are hopes that alternatives will be found soon and urged the customers buying products from traders to reject plastic bags used as package.

"Consumers are  advised not to allow traders to package their goods in plastic bags since they risk arrest", she said.

She said the public should drop plastic bags at collection points in Naivasha at Naivas and Tuskys supermarkets.

"Those who have the banned bags should drop them at the two collection points", she noted.

She urged locals to use plastic bins to throw their garbage in and shun disposing garbage by the roadside or outside their houses to make the environment clean.

"Landlords should acquire bins for their tenants which will be emptied into lorries collecting litter once they get filled up", the officer said.
