According to NEMA director Tom Togo, anyone who will be found dumping garbage into rivers will be arrested and prosecuted.

“Rivers such as Nyakomisaro and Gucha rivers have been polluted by residents dumping garbage into the rivers. It is time residents to ensure they dump wastes properly to designated areas and not into rivers,” said Togo.

He assured that NEMA has stepped up efforts to protect rivers across the county.

“We have laid down strategies to protect our rivers from pollution. NEMA officials with the help of police officers will arrest anyone found dumping garbage careless and arraign the suspects in court to be charged,” added Togo.

Togo urged residents not to construct pit latrines near water sources.

"Most water sources in the county have been polluted because pit latrines are built near water source leading to water contamination. Residents should consider constructing pit latrines far from water sources such as wells, water springs and boreholes,” said Togo.
