The National Environment Management Authority has warned factories and public institutions in Njoro against the pollution of local water bodies and other environmental aspects. Speaking during a community sensitization on sustainable use of water and other natural resources forum that was organized by Njoro River Users Association in Njoro town today, Nakuru County National Environment Management Authority officer Bonface Njoroge said that the authority was keenly watching the conduct of local factories and public institutions bordering the river against flouting environmental protection laws. He at the same time lauded the efforts being put in place by the Njoro River Users Association among other stakeholders including Egerton University’s Faculty of Environment and Natural Resources in conserving Njoro River which plays a big role in socio-economic of local communities as well as the Lake Nakuru National Park ecosystem. “I take this opportunity to warn our local factories and public institutions around Njoro River against adamantly breaking environment conservation laws.We are watching you keenly and we will not relent against taking necessary action. I also take this opportunity to congratulate the association and Egerton University for their continued support of our environmental management programmes,’’said Njoroge. He added that the groups’ efforts to rehabilitate and conserve the water body over the years were immeasurable and pledged government support in the gesture. The environmental protection official further urged the local community to cooperate with stakeholders in the management of local natural resources efforts in order for it to gain maximum benefits from the natural resources.
